The Elvis Presley Story
starring Ronnie McDowell & The Stamps Quartet
Saturday August 29 at 8, Some tickets still available. Call.
A spirited revival of Elvis’ great music with Ronnie McDowell, a five-piece band and Presley’s former backup gospel singers, The Stamps Quartet. Not a note-for-note re-creation of the King in concert, but a true celebration. There are no Elvis impersonations. No fuzzy sideburns. No dark shades. No jumpsuits. (Hurrah!) Simply a night packed with pitch-perfect delivery and soulful singing of some of the greatest music in American history.
Ronnie McDowell sings "Don't Be Cruel."
The revue traces Elvis’ rise from Memphis to Nashville and then on to New York, Hollywood and Las Vegas starting with the intricately timed Mystery Train and concluding with How Great Thou Art and King Creole. Between these favorites are McDowell’s sparkling renditions of That’s All Right, Blue Moon of Kentucky, Heartbreak Hotel, Don’t Be Cruel, as well as other standards. There will be some audience members that will have the opportunity of singing an Elvis song on the Spencer stage with The Stamps.
McDowell’s dynamic appeal as a singer and stage performer not only has been recognized by The Stamps, but also Elvis’ former band, The Jordanaires, and he has been hand-picked by the TV and movie industry to sing the vocals in such films as Kurt Russell’s Elvis in 1979 and by Dick Clark in the 1990 TV series Elvis.
An Elvis tribute featuring the voice of Ronnie McDowell.
