Last on our stage two summers ago, patrons have repeatedly demanded the dashing artist Doug Montgomery return to our Grand Steinway for yet another night of piano magic.
What makes Montgomery so unforgettable? He is without question an extraordinary pop and classic pianist, and his live performances and nine recordings reveal the vast range of his exceptional artistry. But what really makes Doug stand out is his remarkable talents as a stage entertainer.
A concert with Doug -- which includes classical, pop and show standards from Gershwin’s expansive Rhapsody in Blue to gorgeous serenades like O Sole Mia and galloping rhythms like the theme to Gunsmoke -- always includes humorous asides, personable banter and reams of laughter. It’s like he’s inside your home, playing just for you and a gathering of old friends, many of whom will clap and sing along to his frolicking rhythms. In addition to his chosen repertoire for the night, he always takes requests from the crowd to create original medleys of classical masterpieces, barroom ditties and sentimental Broadway standards.
For the past 25 years Montgomery has made his home in Santa Fe where he regularly performs throughout the summer at the popular piano bar Vanessie. He also maintains a busy schedule traveling to private and public engagements, entertaining admirers from Barbara Walters to Oscar De La Renta and former President George H. W. Bush.
