Giselle
Ruidoso Dance Ensemble
Wednesday June 4 at 7 p.m.
Thursday June 5 at 7 p.m.
A two-act ballet by Theophile Gautier and Adolphe Adam; Paris premiere,1841.
Original adaptation by Deborah Rogers, Artistic Director and Choreographer.
Perhaps the most romantic of ballets of the classic repertoire is Giselle, a mythological tale about the love between two people – as well as the sheer love of dance – as told by the outstanding dancers in Deborah Roger’s Ruidoso Dance Ensemble.
The role of Giselle is one of the most sought-after in ballet, as it demands both technical precision and exceptional grace and lyricism. The dancer must display great dramatic skills by conveying the sweet innocence of a country girl, who suffers the heartbreak of betrayal in the first act, and the other-worldliness and loving forgiveness of her character in the second act. Ruidoso’s Susanna Toler will take that lead in this luscious production, with the dashing Prince Albrecht danced by professional guest artist Norbert Nirewicz, a returning RDE favorite. Other leads include Ruidoso’s Gigi Wiggins as the vengeful character Mytha and Capitan’s Simon Pawlak as Hilarion, Giselle’s devoted friend.
