Give A Moose A Muffin

Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. & 1 p.m.

Moose MuffinIf a big, hungry moose comes to visit, you might give him a muffin to make him feel at home. If you give him a muffin, he'll want some jam to go with it. When he's eaten all your muffins, he'll want to go to the store to get some more muffin mix. In this hilarious sequel to The Magik Theatre's 2009 runaway hit If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, the young host is again run ragged by a surprise guest. Last year, the boy was visited by a tiny, fast-moving mouse. This year, his guest is bigger and his head is adorned by a gigantic set of antlers. Join us as we see what kind of havoc a moose can make when you invite him into your home and offer him something just as sweet as - but perhaps just a little larger than - a cookie.

Grade school children will love this theatrical take on the story by Laura Joffe Numeroff that incorporates music, creative movement and visual components of play while reveling in the joys of performing arts.

Charlotte's Web

Monday, October 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. & 1 p.m.
Based on the story by E.B. White

Language arts, creative writing, problem solving, friendship
K-12

Charlotte's WebE.B. White’s loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte comes to life in Charlotte’s Web. Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up in the slaughterhouse. Enter Charlotte, a fine writer and a true friend, who assures Wilbur she will save him. Charlotte hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman – she will create a “miracle.” Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution that not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever. This treasured tale, featuring mad-cap and endearing farm animals, explores bravery, selfless love, and the true meaning of friendship.

Charlotte’s Web is a one-hour play by Joseph Robinette based on the Newbery Medalwinning book by E.B. White (Stuart Little, Trumpet of the Swan). The production is directed by Rob Barron and the incidental music score is by Jeffrey Lunden and composer of Theatreworks USA productions. The scenic design is by James D. Sandefur, and the costumes are by Anne-Marie Wright.

Alaska String Band Odyssey

Tuesday, March 6 at 10:30 a.m. & 1 p.m.
Music, history, culture
k-12

Alaska String BandIntroduce your students to the wilds of Alaska – it’s native peoples, frontier tales, hardships and celebrations – through the riveting Americana roots music, evocative backdrop photographic imagery and narratives of the Alaska String Band.

Hailing from Alaska’s capital city of Juneau, the Zahasky family, also recognized internationally as the Alaska String Band (guitars, violin-fiddles, mandolins, dulcimer, banjo, bass, ukuleles and percussion & perfect harmonies), brings the best of Americana music. This dynamic five member band, which also dances during performances, makes its home in a remote area of “the last frontier” and is the subject of much curiosity and inspiration. Featuring Paul and Melissa, husband and wife of 27 years, and their three children - daughter Laura, age 19, son Quinn, age 17 and daughter Abigail, age 13, this family occupies itself by entertaining visitors on board cruise ships in Alaskan waters and at the Chilkat Theatre among the alpine slopes of a mountain-top destination during the Alaskan summer months. Aboard a forty-foot bus, the Alaska String Band ventures further abroad as it tours nationally each fall and early winter bringing its extraordinary music and fascinating Southeast Alaska Odyssey Show to thousands.

This special performance for students of all ages artfully weaves a tapestry of atmospheric impressions giving an intimate peek into the curiosities of one of America’s treasured and pristine wilderness escapes and its wildlife, scenery and hard rock, adventurous history

* Of particular delight to audiences across the nation and abroad, the Alaska String Band appears in this season’s gorgeous and authentic Alaskan native Yu’pik Eskimo tribe kuspuk costumes; exclusively designed and hand crafted by the Zahasky family.

She meets some interesting creatures including the Catapillar, Tweedledum & Tweedledee, Bumpity Dumpity, Queen of Hearts, Knave of Hearts, the Mad Hatter, and the Duchess. She finds that many creatures in this land don’t have the best of tempers and don’t try to help Alice figure out where to go and what to do!
